Shekhar Bassi

Shekhar is a disabled and autistic screenwriter/filmmaker of British Asian – Indian heritage. A trained actor, Shekhar started out behind the camera as a screenwriter and director and trained on the job under Rolf De Heer. His multi-award-winning short films have been screened at festivals worldwide, including Tribeca, New York, Toronto, Bilbao, Durban and many more. During the first lockdown, Shekhar's debut feature 'Running With Crutches' self-shot had its World Premiere at the Adelaide Film Festival in October. Currently, he is in development on his second feature with Vertigo Productions Australia – 'Notes on Love', a comedy employing techniques developed during the making of the first feature. Shekhar's Feature Film Treatment for 'Caterpillar' was the Grand Prize-winner at the New York Screenplay Festival and was shortlisted for the Creative UK& Netflix Breakthrough initiative. Shekhar has remotely written/directed two Polish shorts, 'Struny' and 'Dyktator', with up-and-coming Polish Cinematographer Mateusz Golebiewski. Apart from film, Shekhar is also seeking to work as a director/writer in HETV Drama. He is currently developing a limited series political thriller with story editor Yvonne Grace. Entrenched in visual storytelling, Shekhar believes in story and screenplay.
